New Gutenberg Blocks

January 13, 2018 | Beta, Misc

Ok, so everyone who's not had their head buried in the sand knows that this thing called Gutenberg is coming soon to WP.  And, depending on who you speak with, that means it's the end of WordPress as we know it. Or its the next best thing since sliced bread.

We have our own opinions of course.

But that's not what this post is about.

Instead, knowing that Gutenberg is a reality, we'll build for it.  So, we followed the basic instructions in the Gutenberg plugin notes to create two new Awesome Support blocks for it.

These are, effectively, just blocks that insert our standard short-codes into the Gutenberg editor.  Once inserted, they look like this:

They're not very sophisticated in the sense that you do not get a WYSIWYG view of how the block will render on the real page.  But at least the user no longer has to remember a short code or even view a short-code.  So, from a usability standpoint, Gutenberg isn't bad at all!

Want to try these out?  Download a beta of Awesome Support Version 4.4 (RC10).  Don't forget to drop us a line at contact@awesomesupport.com to let us know what you think!  And, if you're a raving fan of Gutenberg, we would love your ideas on what kind of blocks we can build for it.
